We had an excellent time at the LC Concert Band and Orchestra Festival on Wednesday. Thank you for allowing your student to participate. Mr. Kohler and I like this festival for a few reasons: it provides a bit of pressure to have our contest music somewhat performance-ready about a month early, we receive excellent written and recorded feedback from a panel of esteemed college and professional directors, and most helpfully, each band got an hour-long clinic on their music from one of the clinicians.
Wind Ensemble got to work with Dr. Jeffrey Gershman of Capitol University (formerly at IU), and Wind Symphony spent time working with Dr. Jason Nam from IU. Both were excellent! You would have been proud of your students – paying very close attention, writing detailed notes in their music, and making audible improvements within the clinic!
If you have a chance, ask your student about the day, or even listen to one of the recorded comments with them. It’s good to reflect on those types of experiences together!
