2018 has been a banner year for Fishers High School Bands – literally, we’ve earned a few banners! Most recently, our band department was recognized by ISSMA with the All-Music Award, which goes to a select number of programs that perform at a high level in all the different facets of band.
A couple of weeks ago, our Wind Ensemble performed in ISSMA State Finals for the third consecutive year, placing 9th. This is quite an accomplishment, considering there were 67 bands that auditioned to qualify for finals.
Wind Ensemble also played a fabulous concert with the orchestra and band from Purdue University at the Palladium in April. What an incredible opportunity to perform in a world-class venue. The kids lived up to it!
Perhaps most prominently, last month Mr. Beachum, Mr. Kohler, and the Concert World Percussion Ensemble won the WGI World Championships in concert percussion! This is the first national championship in the FHS band department, and we are very proud of them!
All spring, members of our band were being recognized as All-State Band members and other honor groups. Our seniors are earning scholarships left and right, several for music. Going back through the year, jazz bands, winter guards, and marching band all out-performed previous years’ highs. Our students continue to raise the bar, and we are proud of what they have accomplished.
Thank you for your support, especially concert attendance, thousands of volunteer hours, driving, lessons, and a myriad of other ways you support your students and our program throughout the year. We hope it has been worth it for your student, and that they continue to value great live music throughout their life, as patrons or participants.
